Thrapston Primary School

Special Provision

Welcome to Thrapston Primary School Specialist Provision - The Nest.

Within our provision, the children are at the heart of everything we do. All of the children that attend our provision have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

All our children are supported to become independent learners. Our dedicated and passionate team have high expectations for our children; they approach their needs in a very personalised and tailored way, supporting each individual child to take steps towards reaching their full potential.

Children not only achieve academically through their learning opportunities but also flourish physically, socially and emotionally.

Staff work closely in partnership with parents/carers and other professionals to ensure the best possible experiences and outcomes for each child.

Primary Unit: Reception and Key Stages 1 & 2

Number of places within this unit – 32

Designation:

Pupils who would be eligible for this provision will have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which identifies primary need as either:

  • Cognition & Learning – Pupils will have a severely delayed cognition and learning including significantly delayed language skills which impacts on other areas of development.

At Thrapston Unit the majority of pupils are taught in a fully adapted and accessible provision

designed specifically for the delivery of a modified and differentiated SEND curriculum.

The building and classrooms are separate from mainstream classes.

The unit provides:

  • A significantly differentiated curriculum which includes differentiation in pace, level, and delivery of specialist teaching and learning to meet the needs of individual pupils.
  • Individual programmes and small group work structured to support  all aspects of learning and development.
  • Specific teaching strategies and environment to facilitate independence in regulating behaviour, development of emotional literacy, social communication and relationship development.
  • Specific interventions such as visual structure, (eg TEACCH approach) for pupils with ASC.
  • An environment with sensory and soft play areas including distraction free spaces.

Thrapston unit has a separate outside play area and safe spaces for the children within the unit.

Opportunities for inclusion into wider school life are based on individual need.
