Primary School

Term 1 in Year 5

What a busy first term it has been!

It has been so wonderful to see all of the children settle back into school and get stuck straight into their learning!

In Maths, we have been developing our knowledge of place value: reading, writing and ordering numbers; counting on and back in powers of 10; rounding different sized numbers; interpreting negative numbers and learning about Roman numerals. The children have been working hard to try and apply what they have learnt to reasoning tasks.

In English, we have been learning about the features of instructions and using what we have learnt to write some effective instructions all about mummification, linking to our History topic on Ancient Egypt. More recently, we have had the opportunity to develop our fantasy writing skills, learning to build action and tension, as we read ‘The Nowhere Emporium’. We can’t wait to see what happens next!

We recently celebrated Anti-Bullying week, where we considered how it would feel to be in someone else’s shoes. This week, on the Friday 9th October, we will be celebrating the importance of looking after our mental health, as part of Mental Health Awareness Week- don’t forget, everyone is invited to wear something yellow to school to support the occasion!
