Year 4 Home Learning – Wednesday 15th July 2020

Hello! Here is our second blog post for this week. We are going to continue working on our project – All about bees! By the end of the week, we would like you to be able to answer the following questions:

Why are bees so important?

What are the different types of bees?

Why are bees declining?

What can we do to help the bees?

You can complete as many or as few of the tasks as you like. If you have any other ideas, then please feel free to do them too!

 Here are your tasks:

1. Read the PowerPoint about bumblebees, honey bees and solitary bees. Have a look at the pictures on the PowerPoint – Can you identify the different types of bees?

2. Last week in science, we looked at how animals are adapted to their environment. Find out how bees are adapted to their environments.

3. Create a bee house! We have attached some ideas to this blog! Here’s some information about bee houses:

4. Bake some honey biscuits – we have attached the recipe to this blog.

5. Produce a fact file on honey bees. Try to include:

  • Why do bees make honey?
  • How do they make honey?
  • How much honey can one hive produce?
  • How does a beekeeper get the honey from the bees?
  • Why are there different types of honey?

6. Create a bee mobile – We have attached the instructions and template to this blog.

7. Design a bee-friendly garden. Research which plants are good for attracting bees. Draw a plan of your bee-friendly garden. Try to use a mixture of trees, flowering plants, herbs and fruit plants.

8. Read the article about Shrill Carder Bees and answer the questions on the worksheet attached to this blog.

We will be posting some final ideas on Friday!

Reminder: If any of the children from Wonder class would like to join the TEAMs meeting with Mr Woodcock on Thursday 16th July, please email Mrs Bromley for an invite.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We would love to see what you have been doing, so please continue to send us your work! Remember to let us know if you would like any photos uploaded onto the Year 4 gallery.
