Year 4 Home Learning – Friday 10th July 2020

Hello!  In this blog you will find your maths, English and RE task for Friday. We have also included a little starter to make sure your brain is warmed up before you start.

Starter:

Watch the trailer to “The Tooth Fairy” https://safeYouTube.net/w/rRMM (The  film is rated a PG, so please get your parent’s permission before you watch the trailer!) Then answer the questions.

  1. What job does the Tooth Fairy have at the beginning of the clip?
  2. What kind of man is he at the beginning? Give an example of something he does that shows you this.
  3. How did the storyteller/director make him look like a convincing Tooth Fairy?

English Task: Today is our last lesson of our adventure story unit. Click on the link to access the lesson: https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-use-key-features-in-order-to-write-own-composition-bc59f2

Watch the video with Mr McGarry who will show you a WAGOLL (what a good one looks like). He will also give you some tips to help you with your planning. Using your wonderful ideas, your plans and the steps to success, we would like you to write your own adventure story. We have attached all of the planning information to a PowerPoint for you. We are looking forward to reading your stories!

Maths Task:

Firstly, have a look at the pictograms on the PowerPoint. You will be answering deep dive questions for your independent work.

Topic (RE) Task:

This is your second RE task this week. The PowerPoint explains how to draw an Islamic pattern. We would like you to have a go at creating your own Islamic geometric repeating pattern. We have also attached some Islamic colouring in sheets if you would you would like to colour one in.

An Extra Challenge:

Here is a challenge for the children who would like some extra work. Today’s extra challenge is based on bar charts. We would like you to set up a game for you and your family and record everyone’s score. Here are some ideas for a game:

  • Penalty shoot out – record how many goals each person scores out of five attempts
  • Star jumps challenge – record how many star jumps each person can do in 30 seconds
  • Design an obstacle course – record how many times each person can complete the course in two minutes
  • Hit the woodwork – record how many times each person can hit a target such as a post or a plastic cup in 30 seconds.

Then complete the worksheet attached to this blog. You will need to:

  • Describe your game
  • Draw your game
  • Record your results
  • Draw a bar chart

Additional Tasks:

We hope you enjoyed your art lesson last week. This week, we would like you to have a go at creating an optical illusion piece of artwork. Click this link to access the lesson: https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/optical-illusions-and-using-shading-to-show-form-b592d5 We are looking forward to seeing your masterpieces.

It is really important to stay active! Try some outdoor activities whilst the sun is out! Here are a couple of ideas for the rainy days:

Check out the kidz bop dance routines. Here’s one to get you started: https://safeYouTube.net/w/rwMM

Minecraft Yoga: https://safeYouTube.net/w/ixMM

Please try and read at least 5 times this week. You can read a variety of different texts.  You could also sign up to the library summer reading challenge (https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/)

Next week:

Next week, our home learning is going to look a little bit different. We are going to have a project week – all about bees! We will be sending some ideas out on our blogs during the week. You can complete as many or as few of the tasks as you like.  You might have some ideas of your own to try out too!

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We would love to see what you have been doing, so please continue to send us your work! Remember to let us know if you would like any photos uploaded onto the Year 4 gallery.
