Year 4 Home Learning - Wednesday 1st July 2020
Hello! In this blog you will find your maths, English and science task for Wednesday. We have also included a little music task we thought you might enjoy. Don’t forget to try the starter to make sure your brain is warmed up before you start.
Read ‘The Chimney Boy’s Story’ (on the PowerPoint) and answer the following questions:
- What words rhyme with time?
- What does the boy mean by ‘the patch of blue’?
- What words and phrases has the author used to show the boy lives a tough life?
We are going to continue with the character description unit on the Oak National Academy website.
Wednesday: We are going to look at the key features of character descriptions. Click on the link to access the lesson: https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/character-description-identifying-the-features-of-a-text-4b3bae
Firstly, complete the quiz and then click next to watch the lesson with Mrs Cooke. She will show you a WAGOLL (what a good one looks like) to help you identify the key features of the text. She will then ask you to pause the video so you can work on the independent task. We have added your independent work to the PowerPoint attached to this blog. You can either print the questions, write the answers on a piece of paper or type them straight onto the PowerPoint – whatever is easiest for you! When you have completed your independent task, press play on the video and you will be able to check your answers. At the end of the lesson, there is another quiz for you to complete.
Thursday: This lesson has a SPAG focus on subordinate clauses. Click here to access the lesson: https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/character-description-spag-focus-subordinate-clauses
Firstly, complete the quiz to check your learning from the previous lessons. Next watch the lesson video. Mrs Cooke will explain to you what subordinate clauses are and show you examples in the text. She will then ask you to pause the video so you can complete the independent task. Again, your independent task can be found on the PowerPoint. You can mark your own work by watching the rest of the video. Finally, there is a quiz for you to complete at the end of the lesson.
We are going to learn how to work out the value of missing angles inside different quadrilaterals. Have a look at the PowerPoint and then choose a worksheet to complete. All of the worksheets can be found in the same document.
Topic (Science) Task:
This week, we are going to learn how to construct food chains and food webs. There is a link to a BBC video on the PowerPoint to help you understand how food chains and food webs work. We would also like you to think about what would happen if a food chain is broken. Finally, choose a worksheet to complete. We have uploaded the answers so you can check if you are correct.
Topic (Music) Task:
Watch this clip on the Oak National Academy website - https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/sing-a-major-scale-4eaf53
This week, we are going to have a go at singing a major scale. Are you feeling brave? Try recording yourself and send it to your teachers.
This week, we would like to give our Year 4 artists the chance to shine! We would like you to watch the following video on the Oak National Academy website – https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/texture-treasure-hunt-363e14 You will be participating in a texture treasure hunt. We are looking forward to seeing your masterpieces!
It is really important to stay active! Try some outdoor activities whilst the sun is out! Here are a couple of ideas for the rainy days:

Please try and read at least 5 times this week. You can read a variety of different texts. Why don’t you try to read something different? You could also sign up to the library summer reading challenge (https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/)
If you would like your child to participate in the Year Four time to talk sessions, please email Mrs Bromley to request an invite. More information can be found on the time to talk blog.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We would love to see what you have been doing, so please continue to send us your work! Remember to let us know if you would like any photos uploaded onto the Year 4 gallery.
