Year 3 Home Learning Wednesday 3.3.21
We have English, maths, music and French tasks for you today.
English Task
Today’s mini starter in the live lesson is a follow on handwriting activity.
L.O: To write an acrostic poem.
Your task today is to think about all you know about rainforests – where they are, the climate, the different layers, animals and plants…anything else you know.
If you missed the live lesson, start by creating a mind map of rainforest facts and other ideas about the rainforest.
Independent Task
Write an acrostic poem about rainforests. If you have a lot you want to say, you could challenge yourself and do a poem titled tropical rainforests. When you have written your poem, you could write it up in neat and add some illustrations to your poem.
Blue task – Include a variety of effective adjectives. Can you include power of 3 in your poem?
Green task – Include some alliteration and try to include a simile
White task - Plan your sentences carefully to make them a variety of lengths. Challenge – can you add onomatopoeia?
Maths Task
L.O: To learn how to subtract money.
Today we are going to learn how to subtract money. Again, we will be using bar models to help us. If you miss the live teaching or want to go over anything again, have a look at the attached PowerPoint. Firstly, we need to warm our maths brains up. Have a look at the table on slide 2 and choose a colour. What do you need to add to the numbers to make 100? Time how long it takes for you to complete one column. Challenge an adult to see if they can complete the same column in a quicker time. The rest of the PowerPoint shows you how to subtract amounts of money.
Top Tip: Subtract the pound amount first. Then subtract the pence amount from your answer.
For example,
£3 and 58p – £2 and 27p =
Step 1: £3 and 58p – £2 = £1 and 58p
Step 2: £1 and 58p – 27p = £1 and 31p
£3 and 58p - £2 and 27p = £1 and 31p
For your independent task, you can choose your own level of challenge. Your resources are attached at the bottom of the blog. Choose one coloured task to work on today.
Yellow Challenge: Download the maths PowerPoint – Have a look at the table on slide 9 and answer the yellow questions. You can use objects to help you with your subtracting.
Blue Challenge: Download the maths PowerPoint – Have a look at the table on slide 9 and answer the blue questions. You can either subtract mentally or use column subtraction. Draw a bar model for each question.
Green Challenge: Download the maths PowerPoint – Have a look at the table on slide 9 and answer the green questions. You can either subtract mentally or use column subtraction. Draw a bar model for each question.
White Challenge: Download the maths PowerPoint – Have a look at the table on slide 9 and answer the white questions. You can either subtract mentally or use column subtraction. Draw a bar model for each question.
Music Task
LO – To understand pulse and rhythm
Here is the last lesson in the pulse and rhythm unit from the Oak National Academy. We hope you have enjoyed learning with Mr Palekar.
The children in school will be doing this lesson on Wednesday.
French Task
LO – To learn how to say what month your birthday is in
In this lesson, you will be able to use your existing knowledge of the months of the year to learn how to say what month your birthday is in.
Why don’t you have a go at teaching the new vocabulary you have learnt to an adult at home. Let us know how you get on!
The children in school will be doing this lesson on Thursday.
