Year 3 Home Learning Blog Wednesday 3.2.21

This week is Mental Health week and the theme is Express Yourself.  It is important that we take care of ourselves and make sure that we are feeling happy.  We would like you to take the time to do something that you enjoy and that gives you a chance to express yourself! It could be dancing, baking, painting or going for a walk - the choice is yours! We look forward to hearing what you got up to in the live lessons this week.  Remember it is always important to make time for the things you enjoy and make you feel happy!

English Task

L.O. To be able to write effective sentences to continue a story.

We have been impressed with how well you have done so far in English this week.  We will write some more sentences together in the live lesson on Wednesday and then there will be some extra sentences to modify for your independent task. 

Download the document from the bottom of the blog. Work through from the start if you didn’t do the live lesson or find the tasks following the live lesson if you have already done the live lesson tasks.

Maths Task

L.O: To learn how to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit (with exchange)

Can you remember what method we used in yesterday’s live lesson?

Draw a place value table and place value counters to answer these calculations:

  1. 23 x 6 =
  2. 14 x 3 =
  3. 26 x 3 =
  4. 17 x 4 =

Remember to move your counters to the next column if you have more than 10 counters in a column.

Today we are going to move onto using a formal written method. If you miss the live teaching or want to go over anything again, have a look at the example document attached at the bottom of this blog. 

Have a go at using the formal written method to solve these calculations again:

  1. 14 x 3 =
  2. 26 x 3 =
  3. 17 x 4 =

For your independent task, you can choose your own level of challenge. Your resources are attached at the bottom of the blog.  

 Blue Challenge: Download Wednesday’s maths PPT – Have a look at the table on slide 2. Answer the blue questions, recording your answers pictorially.

Green Challenge: Download Wednesday’s maths PPT – Have a look at the table on slide 2. Answer the green questions using the formal written method we used in today’s live lesson.  

White Challenge: Download the white maths challenge document – Answer the problem solving questions using the formal written method.  

Please either bring some place value counters or two different types of objects to our live lesson on Thursday. We will be using them to represent tens and ones so it is important that you know which objects represent tens and which objects represent ones.

 

RE Task

LO – To be able to evaluate my stained-glass window 

Task: We would like you to evaluate your stained-glass window that you made last week (that shows one of the miracles from the bible stories) 

Look at the sentence starters below 

  • My stained-glass window shows… 

  • I chose this miracle of Jesus because… 

  • I am pleased with my design because… 

  • Christians would like my window because… 

  • I think Jesus inspires Christians because… 

Extension:  

You could also consider and answer the following questions about your design: 

What do you like about your stained-glass window?  

What do you think looks effective?  

What would you like to improve?

 

French Task

LO – To learn how to introduce and describe yourself in French

We know how much you love your French lessons in school, so we would like you to watch a French lesson on the Oak National Academy website. During this lesson, you will learn how to say your name and describe yourself. You also have the opportunity to write some sentences in French. Let us know how you get on.
