Primary School

Year 3 Home learning Thursday 28.1.21

Well done everyone for working so hard at home. Here are some more tasks for you!

English Task

L.O: To be able to write effective lines of ‘free verse’.

For a starter today, you could have a look at the suffix PowerPoint.

Today you will be writing your own verse of the poem. Start by writing the title (The Magic Box) and underlining.

Remember the repetitive phrase from the poem:  I will put in the box… Write this underneath the title.

Make sure you have included the poetry tools in your planning ideas. You can always add to your ideas as you write today. For example, ‘a tree from autumn’ could be improved by thinking about the onomatopoeia and alliteration from the success criteria list along with the checking lens from the Fantastics. You could then end up writing ‘The rustle of the golden, glowing leaves on an autumn tree.’ What an improvement!

Following the live lesson, have a go at writing 1 – 2 verses of a poem in the same style. See how many colour challenges you can achieve.

Yellow Challenge: Include 2 different lenses and use adjectives

Blue Challenge: Include 3 lenses and use different lengths of phrases

Green Challenge: Include 4 lenses / Use alliteration / Show an awareness of rhythm

White Challenge: Include at least 5 lenses / Use of imagery and onomatopoeia
