Year 3 Home Learning Blog 28 - 17.6.20

Hello everyone! Here we are with the next set of home learning activities. We hope you are all okay and continuing to work hard at home.

Please feel free to decide how is best to manage these tasks at home, not each task needs to be completed on the day it is set and if you have some different learning tasks you would like to complete that is also absolutely fine!

The links below also have a variety of lessons suitable for year 3 that you might like to use in addition to or instead of activities in this blog.

English Task:

Today’s task is to continue with ‘George and the Dragon’.  Have a look at the attached document and please work through the tasks again.


Maths Task:

Earlier in the year, we learnt how to divide a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. Today we would like you to recap the methods we learnt and to practise solving some calculations.

Look at the document below ‘Maths Tasks Division Methods’ to recap the different methods we learnt earlier in the year. See how far you can work through the document. Each method is labelled to show you if it is a blue, green or white challenge.

Then look at the second document below with the different coloured calculations shown. Decide which colour challenge you are going to attempt and use the method we have shown you in the first document. You do not need to complete each coloured challenge (although you can if you want to).

We have included some optional extra challenges for you to complete as well if you would like to.


Topic Task:


Today we will be learning about how and why the Romans successfully invaded Britain Firstly we would like you to explore the pdf document and where it asks you to share your ideas it would be useful to discuss these points with a grown up or if not think about these questions. Then we would like you to complete the tasks below.

Task One – Look at the definition of invaders and settlers on slide 6.  Write a definition of these and then look at slide 7, list the words that you think link to invaders and the ones that link to settlers.

Task Two – Look at slide 9.  Read the information and make some notes.  You could create a list using bullet points or a mind map.

Task Three – Look at slide 10.  Create a time line to show the times that the Romans invaded and settled in Britain, recording the dates.   

Challenge questions - How many years did the Romans rule Britain for? How many years ago did the Romans invade?


Alongside these tasks, please still keep up with the ongoing learning tasks below.

Reading - Our school policy of reading at least five times a week will continue. Please encourage your child to read something every day! They can read different text types - magazines, recipe books, instructions, food labels and anything that they will enjoy! They could read to themselves, to a sibling or another family member.

Spellings – Please use the spellings lists 1-9, 10-20 and 21-28 from the blog post added previously and work from where your child is. Encourage them to write the next set of spellings, perhaps in rainbow colours following the look, cover, write process. Also, it would benefit your child to write them in extended and interesting sentences to show understanding of their use and to ensure they can spell them confidently. Writing the words / sentences in joined up handwriting would also be beneficial. Please also revise random words from previous spelling lists alongside to ensure your child has retained their knowledge.

Times Tables – Ask your child to look back over their times tables in reading diaries and check they can recall the facts quickly and accurately. Then continue learning the next set of tables working through in this order - 10x, 5x, 2x, mix of previous 3 times tables facts, 3x, 4x, 8x, then mix of all the 6 times tables learnt so far. The final tables are tested in the order 9x 11x 6x 7x 12x, so please encourage your child to move on if they are ready to. A link to a useful online game to help with learning tables facts follows below. The children have used this game in school and enjoy the challenge of beating their own score.

P.E. – It is important to stay active so fitness expert Joe Wicks will be hosting a short PE session each weekday morning at 9am on his YouTube channel for children to join in with.

We are also aware that families have a lot to juggle so please just do what you can. Remember, we are here to support you in any way we can. We are happy to be contacted to clarify anything with the learning tasks so please don't hesitate to ask. 

We would love to see what your child has been doing. So, if you can, please send us some emails with their work attached or with some photographs of what they have done. If your child would like their work added to the Year 3 blog on the school website, please explicitly state this in your email to us as we cannot post any work without your permission. If you are unable to send it, don’t worry. Please just keep hold of the work for when we are back.
