What have Year 2 been up to?

Over the last few weeks Year 2 have been writing fact files about hedgehogs or badgers and about polar bears. They have learnt how to layout a fact file, use headings and subheadings and even added some fabulous facts in their 'Did you know?' boxes. We have now started learning about a new genre of writing. Poetry! This week we are writing poems about Autumn and next week will be writing Christmas poems. The children have been learning what a noun phrase is and have used these in their poems.

In Design Technology, we have been learning about mechanisms, levers, pivots and linkages and have designed a moving monster, which we will make before the end of this term.

Thank you to all the wonderful parents and carers who listen to their children read 5 times or more each week. Remember that we now also have online books and comprehension quizzes on myOn and accelerated reader for you children to use at home too.

Please keep on practising times tables as well. The children need to be able to write the answers down and recall them quickly.

Maths IDL logins are also in reading record books for you to practise skills with your children that we will cover in school. The more the children work through this, the more that it will challenge them.

Next Friday is Frosty fun day, when we will be raising money for Cransley Hospice and to patients in their own home through the ‘Hospice at Home’ service. This will be a non-uniform day and children are encouraged to come to school in their finest wintery outfits. Year 2 will be taking apart in a snowflake making challenge.

Not long until Christmas now!
