Year 2 Blog 20/10/21

Here is a new Year 2 blog.

Year Two have had an exciting couple of weeks. As you know, we have been continuing our learning on the Great Fire of London. We built a mini-London on our school field using the houses the children had made from cereal boxes and straw. With the help of Mr Hobbs, the children were able to watch the houses burn, see how quickly fire spreads and how the fire was put out safely.

Here is a video of our amazing fire burning event:

The children had an amazing learning experience with our local fire station. The children prepared lots of interesting questions to ask the crew when they arrived, and the children received an in-depth tour of the fire truck and all the equipment on board.

Our history lesson enabled the children to step back in time and experience writing with quills! The children impressed us with how quickly they mastered this skill.

In English, the children have been doing an independent write about The Muffin Man, based on the traditional story, The Gingerbread Man.

In Maths, the children have been continuing their learning on place value. Using their knowledge of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, the children have been solving problems such as ‘how many 2 pence coins do we need to make 26p.’

With it being half-term next week, please continue to support the children at home by reading daily and practising spellings and times tables but most importantly, enjoy some much-needed family time and relax!

Best wishes from the Year Two team.
