Year 2's week.

We have had fun this week making 1666 houses for our Great Fire of London topic. We talked about what most houses were made from at the time and why the fire spread so quickly.

Soon, we will be setting them up to make our own mini London. But it may not last long!

In English, we are retelling the story of The gingerbread man over the next 2 weeks and then writing our own traditional tale.

In maths, we have been continuing to work on place value of 2 and some 3 digit numbers. We have practically partitioned them and investigated many ways of making them.

Eg 45

40 + 5 = 45        30 + 15 = 45      20 + 25 = 45   etc

The children completed their first times table test in year 2 this week. Congratulations to the children who got 25/25 and received a certificate. Keep practising if you didn't get it and see if you can improve your score next week. Some children were very close but need to be careful writing their answers.  For example : 11 x 10 = 110 (not 101)

In science, we talked about unhealthy and healthy foods and the different food groups.

In PSHE, we discussed what we are responsible for at school and at home. We also talked about the rules that we thought are the most important to us in school.
