First week back!

Our first week back after Easter has been busy and we are so proud of how hard the children are working already.

We have been learning about humorous poetry, this has included reading and writing tongue twisters. We collected vocabulary with similar initial sounds to use in our poems. We decided on which words were nouns and which were adjectives and thought about how to use them in our poems. The children have had fun experimenting with words and getting their tongues in a twist! Next week the children will be writing another tongue twister independently and then will be performing them to their class.

In maths lessons this week we have been practising reading the time to the nearest 15 minutes (5minutes/1 minute for some that were ready for this) and have been working on fractions of shapes and numbers in our 10 minute maths sessions. These lessons have given some children who need it more practise with these skills but for those children who grasped this skill during home learning we have made sure that extension activities have been given to them.

Please continue to practise telling the time with your children at home.

In art this week we have introduced sketch book work which will be developed as the children move through the school.  Sketchbook work is used for the children to experiment with different media, size, shading, methods etc. The children can write comments about things they like or don't like about their own drawings and they can say what they can improve or what they have done well. Before the children started sketching plants and flowers themselves, we looked at the work of Georgia O'Keeffe and that of some botanical illustrators from the past. The children enjoyed practising their skills, experienced drawing for pleasure and began to think about how they could make improvements to their own work.

PE days:

Badger Class: Monday and Thursday

Please send children into school in their PE clothes on these days as we were doing before.

Don't forget that we have class photographs on Wednesday 28th April so there will be no PE this day. Please send your children to school in their uniform on this day,

Please email your child's class teacher if you or your child have any concerns or worries at all.
