Phonics - part of live lesson

This week, we are going to be learning about instructions.  

On Tuesday, we will read instructions and identify the features. There are some example instructions at the end of the blog.

LO: To be able to identify features of instructions.  

Listen to instructions. (yellow) 

Read instructions. (blue) 

Use technical vocabulary. (green) 

Give examples. (white) 

Explain why features have been used. (white) 

  

If you normally do yellow, can you find some different types of instructions around your house and then ask a grown up to read them out to you? See if you can spot some of the features that we have discussed in the live lesson. If you do not have any instructions at home, we have attached some that you could use.  

If you normally do blue, can you find some different types of instructions around your house and then read them to yourself or out loud to a grown up? See if you can spot some of the features that we have discussed in the live lesson and write them down. If you do not have any instructions at home, we have attached some that you could use.  

If you normally do green, use the instructions that are on the blog and you need to underline or highlight adverbs in green, imperative verbs in blue, the heading and sub-headings in red, time conjunctions in yellow and any extra tips in brown.  

If you normally do white, use the instructions that are on the blog and you need to underline or highlight adverbs in green, imperative verbs in blue, the heading and sub-headings in red, time conjunctions in yellow and any extra tips in brown.  

 

Then, you need to answer these questions: 

Why are sub-headings used in instruction writing? 

Why are imperative verbs used in instructions writing? 

Why are adverbs used in instruction writing? 

 

Maths   - introduced in live lesson 

On Tuesday we will be learning about quarters, one quarter and 3 quarters (¼ and ¾), and will be solving problems involving them.

This week’s reading comprehension is ‘Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldwin ‘. Please read the text and answer the questions in full sentences.  

  

If your child usually does Blue work in school, they should do the 1 star; if they usually do the Green work in school, they should do the 2 star; and if they usually do the White work, then they should do 2 stars.
