Y2 Regular Activities for Home Learning

A summary of Y2 Home Learning.

Regular Activities

These will be the regular activities, which will be shared in the live learning session, or through the daily blog.

Daily Maths Activity (Introduced in the live lesson, resources attached and summarised daily.)

Daily English Activity  (Introduced in the live lesson, resources attached and summarised  daily.)

Daily Foundation Subject – RE, Science, Geography, History, PSHE, E-Safety etc. (Summarised daily, and resources attached if appropriate.)

Daily Project work (Summarised daily, and resources attached if appropriate.)

These should be looked at regularly, when you are able, as you would usually do.

Reading - Read anything and everything! Children could read instructions, newspapers, magazines, comics, poetry, non-fiction or fiction books. Remember to read to your children and they could even read to younger siblings. Refer to the Reading at Home leaflet on the website and the bookmarks in Reading Diaries.    Children should still aim for 5 reads a week. Please still record them in Reading Diaries.

Practise spellings – Please don’t worry about which specific spelling lists your child may have been on at school.  Use the lists in the back of the reading diary, and on the gallery area of the website, and work through any that they are currently unsure of.  Any practice will be helpful to them.  If they can spell these then have a go at putting them into sentences to make sure that they are still spelt correctly then too.

Practise times tables – By the end of Year 2, the children should be able to recall rapidly and out of order x2, x5 and x10 times tables (x3 for Greater Depth). Children also need to know the division facts for these times tables, so they could start to practise these as well. (By the end of Year 4, children are expected to know up to x12.)

These are available to you to use as and when you would find it useful to enhance your child’s learning, at home:
