A busy start to Year 2.
We have had an excellent start to Year 2 and we are really proud of how our children have settled into school.
The children have learnt how to write instructions and are currently starting to write their own traditional tales. We are impressed with some of the adjectives that the children have used when describing characters and settings.
It is lovely to see how keen children are to read individually and to the class during Guided Reading. Remember to record reads in Reading Records, if your child read five times in a week, then they will be entered into our Book Raffle that will be drawn at Christmas.
In Maths, we have been learning about place value of 2 digit numbers: ordering, comparing and partitioning numbers. Next term, we will apply these skills to adding and subtraction. Please continue to learn number facts. E.g. 2 + 8 = 10, 13 + 7 = 20.
We were lucky to have a visit from a PWS teacher who ran an athletic afternoon, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
Please continue to practise the common exception spelling words with your children, both spelling them out aloud and writing down. They might even like to write them in a sentence. Spelling tests are on Tuesdays.
The children have made a great start learning their times tables. Please continue to support your children with these. Remember that they will be tested out of order, written down and presented both ways (e.g. 3 x 10 and 10 x 3). Times table tests are on Tuesdays.
