Term 4 Notes
Please take some time to read what we learning in year 1 this term.
Year 1 – Term 4 2021
It looks like this will be a term of two halves. The Year 1 team would like thank all parents, carers and pupils for all the hard work that has been put in whilst the children are learning from home. However, we are really looking forward to seeing you all back on the 8th of March to continue our learning in school. We are learning through PSHE and DT how to keep ourselves healthy. Our Science topic covers thinking Scientifically, engaging the children in making predictions, carrying out experiments and enquiring results. In English, we will be reading and writing in the style of a Diary, whilst learning to spell and order days of the week and Months of the year. We will continue to work on sentence structure and our phonics through regular sessions, focussing on blending and segmenting real and nonsense words, for reading and writing, as well as having weekly guided reading opportunities with in English and Phonics lessons.
Once the children are back in school we will continue with spellings for your child to practise, these will be sent out every other Tuesday and the children will be tested in school the following Wednesday. Results will be given out along with any new spellings. As well as this we will begin to introduce Maths challenge where the children will be tested fortnightly on their number bonds knowledge. Information for this will be put in your child’s reading diary. We will be continuing with our weekly reading checks on a Friday so please continue to listen to you child read regularly. We will communicate with yourselves through the Home Reading Record, so please check your child’s Home Reading Record regularly throughout the week –The Home Reading Record will only be handled by staff for spellings, maths challenges and reading checks only.
In Maths, we will be focussing on measurement. We will be focussing on using correct mathematical language when comparing and ordering length, height, weight, capacity. As well as becoming familiar with measuring in non- standard units and some standard units accurately. E.g cm, grams, ml. We will also be continuing with 10 minute maths where we will recap counting and ordering numbers to 100 and counting forward and back from any number in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Please continue to practise number bonds to 10 and number bonds to 20.
On PE Days, please can children come to school in their PE kit – this should be weather appropriate, and will limit time spent changing, as well as limiting risk.
Bumblebee Class: Monday and Friday
Dragonfly Class: Tuesday and Friday
Children should bring in a bottle of water each day and. Please make sure bottles are named and have a sports cap to prevent spillages.
We aim to communicate with yourselves through our year group blog, and if appropriate, messages on classroom windows. We expect there to be some changes, and perhaps hiccups, as we get back to school, in different circumstances. Please bear with us, and we will share any changes with you as soon as we can. If you have any concerns or issues that you would like to discuss, please come and talk to us, preferably after school.
Year 1 team.
