Maths –

L.O. To be able to use directional language.

 

I can move myself and objects left and right.

 

I can decide whether objects are on the left or right.

 

I can give my partner directions using left, right, forwards, and backwards.

 

I can record directional words with in sentences.

 

I can follow directional language and locate positions on a map.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Starter activity:  Demonstrate that we can tell our left from our right because our left hand makes an L shape encourage them to have a go, so that means that the other direction is right. Use link to encourage them.  https://video.link/w/A3jDb

 

 

Main Teaching: Use power point video link https://video.link/w/uUEDb to model and explain the tasks- Slide 1 and 2 - look for the name of the shape to see whether the shape is to the left or to the right of the other shape mentioned. Do first one together.

 

Slide 3 and 4 - Draw a circle on the left- encourage your child to look for directional language- remind them of the L for left trick. Repeat with triangle on the right. 

 

Slide 5 and 6 - Decide the direction he needs to go to get to the slide, then the see- saw, then the swings. Use word bank for support.

 

Task: You can use an object home e.g a teddy, to decide where that teddy is in the room. Left or right.

 

Extension task: To show the teddy moving up, down, forwards or backwards.

These activities can be used across both days.  You may wish to split them and do some on Thursday and some on Friday, or do all of them on Thursday and recap them all again on Friday.

Task Questions:

Can you share which book is special to you.  Why is it special?

Is your special book the same as ours? What are the special books for other members of your family?

Do you know of any books that are special in different religions?  Do you share any of these in your home?

 

You could write about your favourite book and share this with your teacher. Or you could do a short video sharing your favourite book and talking about it using the questions above to help guide your answers.  These can be emailed to your teachers.
