Y1 - September Information

Welcome back to school!

Hello new Year 1 Children!

Some of you came back to school for a few weeks at the end of Reception, whereas others of you, haven’t been into school since the end of March. With this in mind, we understand that you may be feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness, so we wanted to let you know what things will be like when you start Year One.

Year 1 children will start their day at 8.45am and will finish school at 3.00pm.

On the first day back (Thursday 3rd September), come to the Y1/2 playground, at 8.45am, where you will be greeted by your new teachers. Once all of the children are registered and settled, your old Reception teacher will take the class to your old Reception classroom, you will spend the day the day together, and they will then return you to your new Year 1 classroom in time for pick up at 3.00pm. This will also be repeated on Friday 4th September.

From Monday 7th September, you will be with your new teacher all day, and your time in Year 1 will begin.

Here are the answers to a few questions that you might have:

Where should I go at the start of the day?

You will need to enter the school via the pathway at the zebra crossing opposite the Peace Park and come onto the Year 1/2 playground and your grown ups will carry on across the playground towards the Nursery building before exiting down the driveway.  You will be collected at the same place.

What should I bring to school each day?

It is important that children only bring a coat (hat and sun cream if we have a nice September) and essential items into school, in their book bag. This will include their reading book and reading diary and a named water bottle. Children will not be allowed to bring rucksacks or pencil cases into school.

Can I bring in a packed lunch?

Yes, you will still be able to bring in a packed lunch. Your lunchtime will be from 11:30 – 12:30 and you will go out to play before going to the Hall to have your lunch together.

What should I wear on my PE days?

On the days that you have PE, you should come to school dressed in your PE kit. Please make sure you consider the weather as you will be wearing this all day. PE will be either indoor or outdoor, so as well as your T-shirt and shorts, jogging bottoms and a warm top would be useful. You may prefer to wear trainers instead of plimsolls and that is OK too. Our PE days in Year 1 are as follows:

Dragonfly Class – Inside – Tuesday and Outside – Friday

Bumblebee Class – Outside – Monday and Inside - Friday

If you have any more questions. Please don’t hesitate to contact us. Teachers will be accessing emails from 1st September and will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible. The school office will be open for phone and email communication from 1st September too.
