Primary School

Maths week and other information

From Monday 9th November we (along with the rest of the school) will be celebrating maths week.

Please can your child attend on Monday in a maths costume - this could be something creative, numbers on clothing, shapes or coloured patterns - spots, stripes etc. Football shirts with numbers on, spare t-shirts with mathematical symbols or clocks drawn on - anything linked with maths! If you can not think of anything please at least send your child in non uniform.

We will be having lots of maths based activities out throughout the week - weighing, counting, comparing, matching, sorting, adding, money, clocks, measuring, capacity, shapes.....the list goes on. Watch out on the ILD to see what activities your child participates with - we will be learning in every area of our base and outside too. If your child brings home any ideas of anything they can do at home please share these ideas via their ILD too - maybe they invent a game, want to do some baking, talk about capacity in the bath......we would love to hear about their maths learning at home.

PE - will still be on Thursday so PE kit please - will be a maths based session on directions.

Friday - is individual school photo day so make sure you have a clean jumper/cardigan to pop on your child for this day. We are due to have our photos done before lunch so no risk of beans or yoghurt on them! Unfortunately this year due to Covid 19 there is no opportunity for sibling photos.

Friday is also Children in Need day - we will be incorporating some activities in class but due to the photos we will not be dressing up this year.

Please continue hearing your child read their sound tub, word tub, reading books and practise their letter formation and number recognition. It has been lovely this week to see more children who have worked hard over the half term break now be able to write their name independently and also know a lot more of their phonics. We will shortly be sending home some more phonics homework so the children can share with you how we blend these sounds together to make words - there will be an additional letter with these. We know we are sending home a lot - please write in their reading diary whichever activity you do a night as each entry counts as a weekly read and the child gets a raffle ticket for 5 reads. Do not feel you have to do every activity every day...but something every day would be very helpful to your child.

Advance notice - Christmas Jumper Day is Friday 11th December.
