The beginning of Year 6
We have had an excellent first few weeks week to the term. Already, we have hit the ground running and lots of fantastic learning has already taken place.
In English, the children were mysteriously presented with some intriguing objects: ballet shoes, a notebook, baseball cards, wings and… some golden, glowing eggs! After drawing conclusions as to who and what the objects might have been for, the children were introduced to the mysterious Dream Giver. From this, the children wrote fantastic stories which they are all very proud of!
In Maths, we have revised roman numerals, rounding, place value, negative numbers, addition and subtraction. All children should be able to read ‘millions’ numbers and should be able to say what each digit is worth. The Year 6 children are able to use the standard method for subtraction and addition with some really big numbers!
In Science, the children have enjoyed learning about how and why animals have adapted to their environments.
We have started the year off with lots of PE lessons and have even had a taekwondo taster session! The children know when their PE lessons are, but have also been reminded that their PE kit should be in school all the time.
Thank you to all of the children who took part in the Extreme Reading Challenge – we have received lots of pictures! The Summer Homework projects also look fantastic and are currently being displayed in the Year 6 area.
If your child is coming to Condover Hall, please look out for our final letter - in book bags this evening - and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
