  • Welcome to Year 2

    Published 12/09/18, by Lorna Evans

We have started full steam ahead for what will be a busy, but enjoyable year.

In Maths, we have been ordering and comparing numbers up to 100 using the < > and = symbols. If you would like to practise this with your child, we have attached a link to a fun crocodile comparison game at the bottom of this blog post.

In English, we have been reading Funny Bones. We have been looking at the repetition in the story and describing the settings using adjectives.

P.E. days will be as follows:

    Hedgehogs

    Monday and Friday

    Squirrels

    Monday and Tuesday

    Foxes

    Tuesday and Thursday

Please could you check that your P.E kits all fit as some children have said that their shoes are too small. Also, please ensure that your child has warm clothes in their bags as one of the sessions each week will be outside.

We have been looking at our families and how life was similar and different when our parents and grandparents were our age. Next week will be talking about toys that our parents and grandparents played with. Please talk to your child about how life has changed since you were 6 or 7.

In RE we are learning about our family, for example, where we were born, what languages we speak and what celebrations we take part in. It would be useful if your child knew some information about your family which they could share in class.

We will be launching our spellings next week and times tables in a few weeks. In the meantime, please feel free to practise number bonds to 10, 20, 50 and 100,

    e.g. 1 + 9 = 10.

    12 + 8 = 20

    20 + 30 = 50

    30 + 70 = 100

    52 + 48 = 100

Please ensure you are reading with your child 5 times a week.

The children are all settling in very well and we are very pleased with how they are getting on so far.

    Thank you

Mrs McMurdo, Mr Davies, Mrs Evans, Mrs Kenny, Mrs Webb
