Primary School

Chinese New Year & Duathlon

A busy week in Reception

This week we have been finding out about the Chinese New Year celebration.  We found out that the children in the class were either born in the Year of the Dragon or the Year of the Snake.  This year it is the Year of the Dog.

The children enjoyed listening to the Chinese New Year story of the Animal Race in which the order of the years was decided based on how each animal finished.  The children have enjoyed role-playing and retelling this.  They have also listened to some Chinese music and made up their own dragon dances.  On Monday we also had some Chinese food to try as well.  Lots of the children tried the different foods and talked about what they liked and didn't.  Some children have found a new favourite food that they didn't know they liked before as well.

We found out some facts about China and learned where it is in the world. The children were able to talk about some of the things that are the same and different between England and China.

We have had lots of different creative activities for the children to carry out this week including different dog crafts, making fans, money wallets and having a go at Chinese writing along with lots of other things too.

Also this week the Reception children took part in the Duathlon event.  There were 4 different activities that the children carried out, riding on the static bikes, running, agility and jumping.  All of the children really enjoyed it.

We hope the children all enjoy their half term break and we look forward to seeing them back at school on Monday 19th February when we will be starting our new topic learning about Thrapston and The World.
