Sportshall Athletic Competition

Who said there’s no sport this summer?!
In this time of social distancing with no Euros, no Premier League, no Wimbledon, no Olympics, no Cricket, no sporting fixtures of any description come to that - including the TPS Fantasy Football competition (Mrs Boon can now identify with the pain of Liverpool Football Club)!
Anyway, all the major sporting events have been cancelled – except one!
We are entering a sports hall athletics tournament! Obviously we won’t be competing in a sports hall and there won’t be any races or activities in direct competition with other children - but we will still be competing against (at present) 4 other schools in our region - Oundle, St Patrick’s, Our Lady’s and St Brendan’s.
We have a video here telling you how to participate in the activities but basically they will involve speed bounce, target throw – hoops, standing long jump, chest push and a shuttle run - 10 x 10 metre laps timed.
You do not need all the equipment and the film shows you how can adapt your garden to an indoor sports hall and replace standard resources with alternatives.
Everyone is encouraged to enter - points will be awarded for the scores the children achieve and bonus points will be given for the numbers of children who participate.
The more children take part, the more points we will get.
The actual competition will take place on Friday 1st May. The children will do the activities and their scores will be sent to me and I will pass them on to the organisers, who will then tally all the schools’ scores and announce that we have won!
Children, if you want to take part please let me know. Email me your name and class and let me know if you have seen the film and understand what to do and if you have any issues with equipment, let me know and we will find a solution. So drop me a line on ksmith@thrapston.net and I will enter you in the tournament. I will send through reminders as we approach the tournament date.
